COPS Monitoring Reinvests More Than $500M in its Employees

COPS Monitoring announced that it has reinvested over $4 million in permanent annual wage increases and another $1 million in additional employee benefits.

“For the past two years, the entire country has been faced with an unprecedented crisis related to hiring and retaining qualified employees,” said COPS’ founder and president Jim McMullen. “While the ‘Great Resignation’ and other factors have certainly affected nearly all employers, these challenges impact our industry more acutely because hiring and training a dispatcher is a rigorous and time-intensive endeavor that can take up to 18 months before a dispatcher is thoroughly trained and completely vested in our industry. This fact places extraordinary importance on not only attracting the right talent, but also retaining our dedicated employees.”

In its continuing efforts to attract new recruits and reward its seasoned team, COPS Monitoring has implemented the following:

  • Three separate wage increases in the past 9 months for hourly employees (more than 600) exceeding $4 million annually
  • Reinstatement of Club 6 events, an all-expense paid quarterly reward enjoyed by all top-level dispatchers totaling more than $200K annually
  • Restoration of seasonal company functions, management educational retreats, and elaborate in-person year-end holiday celebrations at each of its 6 locations
  • Seasonal parties/outings
  • An impromptu one-time bonus to all employees to help mitigate the impact of inflation

Together, the hourly wage increases and additional benefits total roughly $5 million, just in the first year.

“We are fortunate to be in the position to be able to make these investments,” continued McMullen. “Not only does it make us competitive as an employer, but it also gives us the ability to retain the best and most dedicated team members, which translates to better service. I’m proud to say that the average tenure of a COPS dispatcher that has passed the one year mark is over 5 years, and that our most seasoned dispatcher has been with our company for a remarkable 26 years.  What’s more is that 96% of our staff in supervisory to senior-level executive roles have all started in an entry-level position with COPS. These facts all indicate that we’re doing something right and we’re confident our investments will continue to provide enduring benefits to our dealers and their customers.”

Alula Launches New Enhanced Video Platform

Alula announced the release of its new video platform. Featuring new camera models, AI-based object detection, enhancements to video clip navigation and viewing in the Alula Smart Security App and advanced video capabilities through the new Slimline Touchpad PRO. These new products and capabilities strengthen the role that video plays as a core component of professional security, and further reinforces Alula’s position as a full-service solutions provider.

Three new cameras have been added to Alula’s video portfolio. The first is a modern, industrial designed Outdoor Bullet – perfect for viewing porches, alleyways, backyards and more. The second is a smart Doorbell camera with robust and simplified aesthetics, improved motion detection algorithms, and active motion highlighting. The final model is the Indoor 360, featuring responsive pan-tilt operation for broad viewing coverage. All three cameras deliver a high-definition viewing experience, motion detection, extended Wi-Fi range and night vision to help users see what’s going bump in the night.

The Outdoor Bullet camera, specially equipped with AI object detection, allows the camera to differentiate between vehicles, people, pets and other objects. System owners will appreciate that they are able to see more while capturing less, as AI object detection filters out “motion noise” and intelligently captures clips of desired activity – such as a child returning home from school or a potential unknown intruder.

With Alula’s Smart Security App, individual camera settings can be adjusted so that system notifications are sent to system users when specific motion activity occurs. App enhancements for navigating stored video clips make it easier for users to find and view clips that were captured at a specific date and time.

Alula’s new video platform can be used in multiple ways. It can be used as part of a more comprehensive smart security system when used in conjunction with the Connect+ control panel. It can be paired with the BAT-Connect alarm panel communicator, on new system installations or on legacy panels that may be in need of a feature refresh. It can also be used as a standalone video surveillance system, which is important for dealers and integrators who are looking for a way to get their foot in the door with consumers and small business owners that may initially only be interested in video services.

“If you need another reason to take a serious look at Alula’s new video platform, consider our newest system control interface – the Slimline Touchpad PRO,” said Corey Plender, Alula’s Vice President, Product Management & Customer Success. “These new cameras and our new touchpad have been purposely integrated to deliver an enhanced customer experience.”

The new touchpad brings these cameras to life by enabling users to monitor live or recorded video on a 7-inch, full color display. The Touchpad PRO plays an audible chime when the doorbell is activated. It also enables two-way conversation with visitors through the new Doorbell camera, or with people in various locations throughout the property with the Indoor 360 camera.

“The advances we’ve achieved with this new video platform are just the beginning,” Plender said. “We are working on intelligent processing that will allow us to combine the AI detection capabilities of these new cameras with our sensor technology. Using the video information and sensor activity together, will allow us to tell a more complete story of what’s going on inside of a home or business. These elements will all be brought together to further evolve the video verification experience.”

DMP® Owners Forum Spotlights Industry’s Best Dealers With Annual DMP Awards

To mark the start of the ISC Show in Las Vegas where DMP showcased its new and existing products, DMP hosted its annual Owners Forum at the Four Seasons Hotel in Las Vegas for its top dealers.

“We’re excited to welcome the finest professionals in our industry to the 2022 Owners Forum. We expect another year of great insight and education,” said DMP Vice President of Marketing Mark Hillenburg.

This invitation-only event creates an opportunity for like-minded executives and owners to network and listen to acclaimed speakers share ideas on how to grow their businesses. The forum also spotlights this year’s DMP Award recipients.

This year’s Owners Forum featured two panel discussions with over 20 of the security industry’s biggest names discussing “Five things alarm company owners should do to increase the value of their company.” Panelists followed up with real-life tactical ways to put these items into practice. Keynote speaker, Scott McKain, gave an insightful presentation on the Ultimate Customer Experience.

The annual DMP Awards was initiated to recognize select outstanding dealers. Recipients are selected based on various criteria, including recognized milestones as a DMP dealer, sales-volume recognition and Dealer of the Year Awards in various categories.

Since 1975, DMP has been built on a foundation of innovation, integrity and responsiveness, Hillenburg adds. “As DMP continues to grow, we rely on our dealers for help in that advancement. Their insight and professionalism are vital to us, which is why we look forward to recognizing them at Owners Forum.”
