You are here: Home1 / Standards2 / TMA – Request to develop a new American National Standard

TMA welcomes members to propose ideas for TMA to serve as the ANSI Accredited Standards Developer (ASD) for new American National Standards (ANS).

To propose that TMA develop a new ANS, the requester shall complete the “Request for a New American National Standard” request form below.

TMA’s standards committee will review the request and determine the need for the proposed ANS as well as determine applicability of TMA acting as the ASD. The information provided by the proposer shall be sufficient for TMA’s standards committee to properly evaluate the request.  The standards committee will establish a dialogue with the requester during the review process.

If TMA’s standards committee agrees with the need for the standard and that TMA is the appropriate ASD for the proposed ANS, the committee will coordinate with TMA’s CEO for TMA Executive Committee (EC) and/or Board of Directors (BoD) review and approval.

Upon EC and/or BoD approval, procedures defined by TMA ANSI accredited Standards Development Guideline shall govern the development process for the new ANS.

If the standards committee agrees the proposed standard has merit, but determines TMA is not the appropriate ASD, the standards committee shall advise and assist the requester with presenting the standards proposal to an appropriate ASD. The standards committee will determine if TMA should seek dual ownership of the proposed ANS.

The TMA standards committee may recommend the creation of industry guideline(s) or best practice(s), versus an American National Standard.
