“Leaders Must Build Trust During Change” is Keynote Message at 2018 Annual Meeting of The Monitoring Association

October 13-17 in Palm Beach is a “Can’t Miss” Event for Monitoring Industry Leaders; 2018 Plans Reflect Attendees’ Desire for a More Streamlined Schedule

The Monitoring Association announced the keynote speaker for its 2018 Annual Meeting (October 13-17 in Palm Beach, FL). David Horsager, CEO and best-selling author of “The Trust Edge,” will present Build Trust or Die Amidst Change:  How to Build Trust, Lead Others & Grow Revenue through Times of Transition.

“Change is constant–and the speed of business is faster than ever before,” says Horsager. “How do you build trust and keep things running smoothly during major business transitions or uncertain political climates? In this session, I’ll show leaders how times of change are the greatest opportunity to build trust and achieve business results in the face of uncertainty.”

Attendees will benefit from these key takeaways from Horsager’s presentation:

  • The single most important driver in communication during times of transition
  • How to accelerate decision making and keep momentum moving for those you lead
  • Why the “How” is more important than the “Why”

David Horsager, MA, CSP, CPAE is the CEO of Trust Edge Leadership Institute, national bestselling author of “The Trust Edge,” inventor of the Enterprise Trust Index™, and director of one of the nation’s foremost trust studies: The Trust Outlook™. His work has been featured in prominent publications such as Fast Company, Forbes, The Huffington Post and The Wall Street Journal. Horsager has advised leaders and delivered life-changing presentations on six continents, with audiences ranging everywhere from FedEx, Toyota and global governments to the New York Yankees and the Department of Homeland Security.

The 2018 TMA Annual Meeting will continue to build on the improvements and successes of the past years, presenting the strong education program and unparalleled networking only found at TMA’s annual event, along with the unique opportunity to interact with AHJ representatives. “We hope all TMA member companies will be represented in Palm Beach this year,” said TMA president Ivan Spector. “It’s always beneficial to see your fellow members in person and learn from the best of the best!”

This year, there is an adjustment to the traditional schedule. “Member feedback from recent years indicated that attendees want the Annual Meeting to be more streamlined,” continued Spector. “To that end, we are compressing two days of board and committee meetings into one. Committee members now do not need to arrive until early Sunday afternoon. However, we hope that if you can, you will come as early as Friday to take advantage of our spectacular location.”

Additional education sessions (October 15-17) at the Annual Meeting will focus on helping leaders address critical issues and challenges facing the monitoring industry, such as the millennial workforce, executive management, technology trends, and telecomm issues. The complete roster of speakers will be announced over the summer.

Rooms are available now at the 5-Star, 5-Diamond Eau Palm Beach Resort, located on the south end of Palm Beach Island, an 18-mile long Atlantic coast barrier island. New Licensing Fees Coming in California

The California Alarm Association reported on March 20 that, as a result of legislation (SB 547, Chapter 429) signed into law in 2017, effective July 1, 2018, there will be new fee amounts for most license types regulated by the Alarm Company Act, Collateral Recovery Act, Locksmith Act, Private Security Services Act, and Proprietary Private Security Services Act.

Please note that SB 547 did not affect the fees in the Private Investigator Act.

Submitting Initial Applications for Licensure: The date the application and payment for initial licensure is submitted will determine whether the current or new fee will apply:

  • If the application is submitted by mail and postmarked before July 1, 2018, the current fee will apply.
  • If the application is submitted by mail and postmarked on or after July 1, 2018, the new fee will apply,
  • If the application is submitted by BreEZe or in-person before July 1, 2018, the current fee will apply.
  • If the application is submitted by BreEZe or in-person on or after July 1, 2018, the new fee will apply.

Submitting Renewal Applications: The expiration date for your current license, registration, certificate or permit determines whether your renewal payment is the current fee or the new fee amount. If the expiration date is before July 1, 2018, the current fee will apply. If the expiration date is after July 1, 2018, the new fee will apply even if you pay the renewal fee before July 1, 2018.

Disruptive marketer, best-selling author Scott Stratten is keynote speaker for 2018 ESX

The Electronic Security Expo (ESX) has announced its keynote speaker. A disruptive marketer, best-selling author and president of UnMarketing, Scott Stratten will force you to rethink everything you know about resonating with customers today. This marketing expert will address passionate electronic security professionals with a talk about today’s evolving business climate on the ESX Main Stage, Wednesday, June 20 from 11:30 a.m.- 12:45 p.m. in Nashville’s Music City Center.

“Today’s business climate is changing at an unprecedented rate,” says Stratten. “Every week, it seems there is a new strategy, social media site or technology that is a ‘must use’ or a ‘game changer’. What we lose in this endless quest for the next bright shiny business object is that at the core of business while everything has changed, nothing is different. Trust, connection, consistency and service will always trump any new app to hit the market.”

At ESX, he will draw on information learned while writing his five best-selling business and marketing books to teach ESXers about the Millennial myth, social media, and how customers make buying decisions in a digital world.

Stratten’s presentation is one of three Main Stage events at ESX intended to educate, energize and inspire audiences to elevate their personal and professional lives. Off the Main Stage, there are four educational tracks for professionals to explore, each filled with peer-led seminars on carefully vetted industry and business topics.

This balance of Main Stage inspiration, coupled with up-close and personal seminars, provides a variety of opportunities for professionals who want to learn more at ESX. The event also features networking opportunities for attendees to engage with their colleagues and peers, and an expo designed for quality and in-depth conversations.

Because ESX is open exclusively to electronic security, life safety professionals, including companies that service the connected IoT space for homes and businesses, exhibitors can better target their conversations, and guests have more focused and meaningful networking opportunities.

Wayne Alarm Systems and Lexington Alarm Systems Join Forces

In January, Ralph W. Sevinor, president of TMA member company Wayne Alarm Systems, and Donald Martini, president, Lexington Alarm Systems, announced that their two companies will combine forces under the Wayne Alarm Systems umbrella to bring the highest-quality home and business security systems to local customers with improved technology and a broader service area.

“Wayne Alarm Systems is now in its 50th year of operations as a multigenerational, family-owned security systems company,” said Sevinor, a former president of TMA and current chair of the TMA Five Diamond Committee. “We have built a reputation for responsiveness and top-quality services, supported by state-of-the-art technology, to make our customers’ experience the best it can be. Acquiring one of Massachusetts’ premier security companies, Lexington Alarm Systems, will complement our company culture, and the combined customer base will give both companies an expanded service area. Lexington’s reputation for customer service excellence matches perfectly with our mission.”

Donald Martini stated: “Wayne Alarm Systems’ commitment to technology, and all the conveniences this brings to their business model and customers, will be an enormous new boost for us. The expanded service area of our new combined service force achieves one of Lexington’s long-term goals. It brings to fruition our concept of a multigenerational, family-owned, top-quality, local security systems company competing successfully with the giant, global corporations that offer compelling marketing, but lack the substance of on-site knowledge and community engagement.”

Wayne Alarm Systems and Lexington Alarm Systems, now combined, become the Boston area’s premier electronic security and life safety solutions provider. This new acquisition offers increased strength in all the emerging technologies and confirms our customer-centric service as second to none in Massachusetts. Wayne Alarm Systems will continue to offer excellent opportunities to all local customers to have the best in alarm security, right in their own hometowns. Lexington Alarm Systems will continue operations at its current location in Bedford, Massachusetts, under the direction of Mike Lordan, vice president of Lexington Alarm Systems. This merger creates immediate job opportunities at both locations.

While Wayne Alarm Systems is acquiring Lexington Alarm Systems in the corporate sense, this is operationally a merger of the best and brightest of the two companies.

Vector Security to Award Loss Prevention Foundation (LPF) Scholarships for 10th Straight Year

More than $213,000 awarded to date to support loss prevention certification.

For the 10th year in a row, TMA member Vector Security, Inc., the provider of intelligent mobile security and automation solutions to homes and businesses, is accepting applications for its Loss Prevention Foundation (LPF) scholarship program from now through March 31, 2018. Applications can be submitted via the Vector Security website at www.vectorsecurity.com/lpfscholarship.

The scholarships provide financial support to loss prevention professionals – or those who have an interest in loss prevention – seeking to obtain LPQ and LPC certifications. Vector Security began awarding the scholarships in 2009 in support of career development and continuing education for professionals in this important and rapidly-growing industry.

“We are proud to celebrate 10 years of partnership with the Loss Prevention Foundation to support the important and evolving profession of loss prevention,” said Michael T. Grady, LPC, Executive Vice President, Vector Security Networks. “As the security needs of multi-site businesses continue to change, including the need to integrate IT and network solutions into loss prevention more closely, it becomes increasingly important for LP professionals to stay current on industry trends and solutions. Continuing education and certification in this field will help LP professionals meet the challenges of their profession.”

“We value the contributions loss prevention professionals make to this industry and our commitment to this profession remains strong,” Grady added. “Through our scholarship program, we’re honored to assist individuals who otherwise may be hindered by the costs associated with obtaining this certification.”

Vector Security has awarded 209 scholarships totaling $213,220 since the program began in 2009. The scholarships cover all course and examination fees for retail loss prevention professionals who wish to obtain LPF’s Loss Prevention Qualified (LPQ) or Loss Prevention Certified (LPC) certifications.

“Hearing the stories of how our scholarships have helped people advance their careers makes me proud to be part of a company that cares about the industry as a whole, as well as helping individuals advance in their professions,” said Debbie Fisher, Vector Security Marketing Online Specialist, who has administered the program since its inception. “Every now and then, I will receive an email from a recipient who has just passed their exam. I love to hear about their success and the journey they took to get there. It’s not always an easy road, but their pride and hard work shows through in their accomplishments. It makes me happy to know we played a part in their story.”

In 2012, the scholarship program was expanded into Canada and will continue this year as well. A total of 10 LPQ and 10 LPC scholarships will be awarded to U.S.-based professionals, while another five LPC scholarships will be awarded to Canadian-based professionals.

Anyone currently in the loss prevention industry, or has an interest in the industry, may apply for an LPQ scholarship. Those applying for the LPC scholarship must meet certain eligibility requirements. Detailed information can be found at www.vectorsecurity.com/lpfscholarship.
