Accomplished Association Executive is TMA’s First Female Executive Director
VIENNA, VA (October 2, 2018) – Next month, Celia T. Besore, MBA, CAE will become the new executive director of The Monitoring Association. An astute executive and dynamic strategist, Besore has established a solid career of success representing national associations and members, nurturing key alliances, and influencing and inspiring change through advocacy, education, and professional opportunities.
Besore, previously executive director of the National Association of Hispanic Nurses as well as a former member of the board of directors of the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE), is well-recognized for expertise in delivering strong revenues, generating growth, driving turnarounds, and building organizational value in diverse sectors, including healthcare, electronic security, packaging, and trade association management. Besore currently serves as TMA’s Vice President of Membership and Programs and previously worked at the association as Vice President of Marketing and Communications.
“Frankly, choosing Celia to lead TMA was an easy choice,” said TMA President Ivan Spector. “Throughout the years that I have known her, she has been a tireless advocate for the association. Her energy, passion and enthusiasm for the industry will spur TMA to grow to the next level in a rapidly changing landscape.”

Besore holds the prestigious Certified Association Executive credential from ASAE as well as an MBA from George Mason University. She is a recognized association management community leader, volunteering countless hours to ASAE programs such as the Diversity Executive Leadership Program for which she serves as a mentor.
The first woman to lead The Monitoring Association staff as executive director, she will assume her new position on November 1, following the retirement of Executive Director Jay Hauhn on October 31.

The Monitoring Association announced the keynote speaker for its 2018 Annual Meeting (October 13-17 in Palm Beach, FL). Additional education sessions (October 15-17) at the Annual Meeting will focus on helping leaders address critical issues and challenges facing the monitoring industry, such as the millennial workforce, executive management, technology trends, and telecomm issues. TMA’s new president Ivan Spector began his term at the close to the 2017 TMA Annual Meeting on October 11. His first public address as president was the following week at the CANASA Monitoring Symposium — appropriately enough, as he is TMA’s first Canadian president.

The CANASA event focused on how the industry is reacting to the issues of self-monitoring and cybersecurity and the growing influence of companies like Amazon and Google on the home automation market.
Spector addressed the participants on topics including disrupters, 3rd party stations, and threats and new entrants.

Members of The Monitoring Association (TMA) chose their next president at the General Membership Meeting in Nashville on June 13:Ivan Spector, president of Montreal-based Sentinel Alarm Co. Sentinel has been in the security and critical monitoring business for more than 40 years and is a full-service, custom-designed ULC-listed and Five Diamond-designated monitoring station.
“I am very honored and humbled to serve in the position of President,” said Spector. “I look forward to continuing our successes and I thank all of our members for their support and participation.”
In addition to his ownership of Sentinel Alarm, Spector is a leader in advancing alarm management in both Canada and the United States. For CANASA, he has served on the Board of Directors, was national president, and chair of the Response Committee. In that role, he proved instrumental in driving many false dispatch reduction initiatives. He was a founding member and longtime board member of the Security Industry Alarm Coalition (SIAC). Currently, he serves on the Executive Committee of TMA.
Spector is a Superior Court of Canada-acknowledged and accepted expert witness. He is a graduate of McGill University in Montreal. He and his wife Jodi reside in Montreal and have four children.
In addition to the election of Spector, officer positions for the next two years were proposed and accepted by vote of the membership: Don Young, ADT; Morgan Hertel, Rapid Response; and Steve Butkovich, CPI will become vice presidents of the Association and Alan Gillmore IV, Gillmore Security, will become treasurer.
“Congratulations to Ivan and our other new officers,” said TMA President Pamela J. Petrow. “I have had the pleasure of working with all of them during my presidency, and know that the Association will be in very good hands under their leadership.”
These leadership changes become official at the conclusion of the TMA Annual Meeting in Scottsdale October 7-11.
In addition to voting on these leaders, members approved several proposed changes to the Association bylaws sections pertaining to officers and committees. The revised bylaws are posted online at tma.us.
